Happy Thanksgiving!

Today we had a great Thanksgiving meal here at the Volunteer Village.

There were 15 volunteers and two guests.

Paul & Marti are with family today, so they were definitely missed here.  Of course there was a lot of great food and enough left for another meal tomorrow night!

I made dressing…

and gravy, of which I forgot to take a picture.  Terri made three pies, two pumpkin and one cherry!

There is some pumpkin pie left… but all of the cherry pie is gone!  Sorry Paul, but spending time with your family is worth missing a piece of cherry pie… right?

Terri and I hope that everyone had a great day!

Huntington Beach State Park… Day 7

Today, Sunday, 11/3, we said our goodbyes to five couples.  John & Ginny, Jim & Dee, Howard & Linda, Hank & Selene, and Jim & Judy.  Kris left too, while Ray stayed one more night, but we bid her farewell the night before.

Before their departure, Howard & Linda weighed Jim & Dee’s and Jim & Judy’s rigs.  We gathered in the morning…

and soon they were ready to head over to the “weigh site” to get weighed.

Some of us headed over to watch.

Jim & Judy were first after stopping at the dump station.

Soon Jim & Dee were pulling in for their turn...

at the scales.

After the weighing process was finished, we said our “see ya laters” to all three couples.  Jim & Dee and Jim & Judy were on their way out, and Howard & Linda were going back to their site to pack up and leave.  Terri and I also bid farewell to John & Ginny and Hank & Selene a little later in the day.

Shortly after noon Terri and I took a walk on the beach.

It was a beautiful day at the beach.

Later, Paul & Marti, George & Laurie, and Terri & I went to a local Chinese buffet for dinner.

The food was delicious and,  of course, I was stuffed when we walked out of there.  But then, I don’t think any of us left hungry!

On the way back home we stopped for gas.

It certainly was nice to see the price below $3.00!

We finished out the evening with one last campfire.

Tomorrow is a travel day for Paul & Marti and Terri & I.  We’ll be heading back to the Volunteer Village at J. Strom Thurmond Lake.

Huntington Beach State Park… Day 6

Saturday, 11/2, was a quiet day.  I think many of us are beginning to get a bit weary from all of the fun, excitement, and eating!  Early in the afternoon Terri and I went over to visit with Jim and Dee for awhile.

We hadn’t been able to visit with them too much since we arrived here, and we had some catching up to do since we haven’t seen them for a year.  We enjoyed our visit with them, and hopefully it won’t be another year until we see them again!

After we had been visiting for a while, I saw Paul and Marti outside getting the fire started.  I went out to lend a hand, and soon Terri, Jim, and Dee came out and joined us.  Eventually the others started congregating in anticipation of another wiener roast!

The temperatures were 10-15 degrees cooler today, and some of us were a bit chilly…

while others were just happy, happy, happy!

We still had a lot of firewood!  So Howard pulled his truck over next to ours, and we loaded some of the wood into the back of his truck.

By now the fire was ready…

and we all had a great wiener roast along with leftovers from the week’s earlier meals.

We finished off the evening sitting around the campfire and trying to stay warm.

Tomorrow about half the group will be leaving us.  Sadly the week of fun is coming to an end.
