J. Strom Thurmond Lake Volunteer Village
Modoc, SC
This past week we enjoyed spending time with old and new friends alike.
On Thursday, 4/4, we returned to Batesburg-Leesville to meet Paul and Marti for lunch at Shealy’s Bar-B-Que.
One of the COE rangers highly extols this eatery, and apparently she’s not the only one that likes it. The parking lot was packed! And now we know why! Shealy’s doesn’t have a menu… they have a buffet! A very nice sized buffet consisting of an appetizing array of salad items, vegetables, brisket, pulled pork, fried chicken, and – last but not least – desserts! Oh boy, was it ever good! And of course, the company was excellent too!
The buffet includes barbequed RIBS on Fridays! We’ll be going back very soon to try them out!
Then Friday afternoon, 4/5, we swung by Randy and Pam’s campsite at Petersburg Campground for a visit.
They were in town to attend the Masters on Monday in Augusta, courtesy of tickets provided to them by their son-in-law. How nice! Our conversation flowed quickly and easily on topics running the gamut of everything RV, to Habitat for Humanity, to how we met our spouses. The time flew by, and all too soon it was time to wish them safe travels. It was great meeting them, and we hope our paths cross again sometime.
On Saturday, 4/6, one of the waterfront sites became available when volunteers Hank and Nancy left. As much as we enjoyed site #12 at the Volunteer Village, we decided to take advantage of the opportunity and move down into site #8 closer to the lake. After a long travel day of 300-400 feet, our move was complete. Here are a couple of shots of our new digs.
This is the view out our back window…
and our side windows.
It’s a great site with a bit more privacy and beautiful views of the lake. So far we’ve thoroughly enjoyed our new spot.
We’ll end this post with a great beginning…
an early morning sunrise.
Don't you just hate those long drives! The new site looks like it was worth the effort! We do like making new friends.
ReplyDeleteI like your new yard :) We both love waterfront views too. Nice that you get to see Paul & Marti so much!
ReplyDeleteWow, a waterfront site for the workers. Now that is cool. You two are becoming social butterflies. I know I'd sure meet up for eats and talk with you two if I could. Thanks for keeping Paul entertained.:-)). Nice picture of he and Marti.
ReplyDeleteGreat new campsite...love the view. Glad you help Paul and Marti stay busy while they wait;o))
ReplyDeleteThe move certainly looks like it was worth it!
