A Short Visit to Valdosta

Saturday 1/12/2013

Cain’s Creekside RV Park

Hahira, GA

(NOTE:  DUE TO A RECENT LAPTOP MALFUNCTION, WE’RE EXTREMELY BEHIND ON OUR BLOG.  PLEASE CHECK BACK OFTEN WHILE WE GET CAUGHT UP.)

Thanks to all who commented about Volksmarching and any fees that may be associated with it.  The AVA website was rather vague about fees, and we appreciate the clarification.

Thursday, 1/10, we packed up and left Walkabout Camp and RV Park and drove westward about 2.5 hours to Cain’s Creekside RV Park just north of Hahira, GA.

It was an uneventful trip with just one wrong serendipitous turn in Waycross.  The originally planned route took us through a very congested part of town and under a railroad viaduct, whereas the “new” route bypassed the congestion and took us over the railroad tracks by way of a nice wide bridge.  The route from Waycross to Hahira was very rural with very little traffic.  Hahira is located 10-15 miles north of Valdosta, GA.  Cain’s Creekside RV Park is a Passport America park with full hookups for just $16 per night.  It’s a fairly new park, and they just completed another expansion for a total of 30 sites.  We had a nice pull-through site, #4, with a pond located just in front of us.DSCN7059

With a clear view of the southern sky, I was able to get the satellite dish set up easily.  The pull-through sites near us are a bit close, but they do have privacy fencing separating the sites.

The park is very quiet except for an occasional  train passing nearby.  We’ll definitely stay here again if we’re ever in the area.

On Friday, 1/11, we drove in to Sunset Hill Cemetery in Valdosta, GA.  It has some very old sections as well as newer sections.  We tend to walk through the older sections and try to read many of the headstones.  Sometimes we can’t read them because they’re too weathered.  This one on the left was actually made of wood!

This is just a sampling of what we saw there.

After our visit to the cemetery we stopped at Cracker Barrel for the Friday Fish Fry!

As usual, the food was delicious.

Tomorrow we head southwest about an hour to Thomasville, GA.

  1. It is so frustrating when computers take of mind of their own and don't work right. At least it didn't stop you from having fun. So many cemeteries, so little time. ;c)

So when you made that "right" wrong turn, did your GPS start yelling at you? Sometimes good luck is better than even the best GPS unit.

    Gotta love PPA! :c)

  2. Hate those computer issues...we depend on ours for so much! We are new members and from Georgia. If you are ever in the Pine Mountain area, check out Callaway Gardens. There is a great RV Resort....Pine MT. RVC Outdoor Destination. We love it and always stay there when we are "at home" for doctor/ dentist/ vet, etc. appts.

Hope you are back on line soon!
